I’m nearing the end of a four month project to design a loft apartment in Geneva and am so excited to post the plans for the living area. I previously shared the plans for the bedroom scheme – we ended up making a few changes to the bedroom design but the overall aesthetic is still a blend of vintage, mid-century modern furniture mixed with global accents. I’ve carried over the same feeling into the public spaces and I’m really loving how everything has turned out!

My client, who recently moved to Switzerland from Asia, already had several great pieces, including an Eames lounge chair, antique Persian rugs and an eclectic collection of art from around the world. He’s also a music lover so has a huge number of vinyl records and piano. The apartment is wrapped on three sides by floor-to-ceiling windows and has very few walls, requiring some creative floor planning and storage solutions. Here is the empty space…

I split the open space into three distinct areas – a music room for my client’s instruments, a living room for hanging out and watching TV and a more formal dining room for parties. The color palette is based around the antique rugs, pulling in a lot of greys, black and wood tones to reflect my client’s tastes and fit the loft vibe of the apartment. As my client is renting, we kept the white walls and are adding color through accessories and furnishings. Here is the overall design!

In the music room I used large open bookcases to help separate the space and offer plenty of storage. I love the grey lounge chair / ottoman from West Wing Now that can be used in several different positions, providing flexible seating. In the living room we went with a large sectional for comfortable seating and a soft light grey rug to balance out the black leather chairs and warm up the tile floors. The dining room is probably my favorite room and I love the mix of materials. Here is a little sneak peek!

We are almost finished with the install and I can’t wait to share photos of the whole space! In the meantime, I’m sharing as many links as I can below if you’re interested in creating this look in your home.
